A first solo exhibition is a significant milestone in an artist’s creative journey - very different from contributing one or two pieces to a group exhibition. It asks an artist to step forward with confidence and say:
This is my work. This is my story. This is what I want to share.
That can be both incredibly exciting and a little daunting which is why we specialise in supporting artists who are ready to take the step towards their first solo exhibition.
A successful solo exhibition begins long before the doors open.
We offer practical, creative and organisational support throughout the process, helping you move from the initial idea for an exhibition through to presenting a cohesive body of work to the public.
Our approach is supportive and collaborative. We are not here to tell you what your work should be. We are here to help you recognise what is already emerging within your practice, develop the story you want your exhibition to tell and present your work with confidence and professionalism.
Depending on the artist and the exhibition, our support can include developing the exhibition concept and title; selecting and bringing together a cohesive body of work; helping to shape the artist’s story and exhibition narrative; preparing artist biographies, statements and exhibition text; considering presentation, layout and visitor experience; liaising with venues; planning the opening event; developing promotional material; and providing practical guidance throughout the exhibition process.
Most importantly, you do not have to navigate your first solo exhibition alone.
We walk alongside you.
There are plenty of galleries working with established artists. At HeARTlands, we've chosen to focus on the artist who's just beginning to step forward — the one quietly building a body of work, wondering could I do this on my own, or who's never exhibited at all but has something that deserves to be seen. We believe that artist deserves the same care, professionalism and seriousness usually reserved for those already established.
A first solo exhibition builds confidence and opens doors — but it's also personal: the moment you stand in a room surrounded by your own work and see the journey you've made. We want to help make that moment possible. Your first solo exhibition is your story. We're here to help you tell it. Come on in. Pull up a chair. Let's have a conversation about it.
Getting Your Exhibition Ready
Our core offering provides the creative, practical and organisational support needed to develop and deliver a professional first solo exhibition.
It is designed for emerging artists who want guidance and support throughout the exhibition process, but who are happy to manage their own publicity and media outreach.
Getting Your Exhibition Ready & Seen
Our enhanced offering includes the exhibition support above together with a dedicated PR and publicity element, designed to help the artist and their exhibition reach a wider audience.
This can include developing the story around the artist and exhibition, preparing press materials, identifying relevant media opportunities and supporting promotion in the lead-up to the exhibition.
For an artist presenting their first solo show, that additional visibility can be particularly valuable — helping introduce both the exhibition and the artist behind it to new audiences.
